It’s the beginning of a new year and most people’s number one resolution is “New Year, New Me”. We’ve all been there and know that a few weeks into your “new me” phase, you crash. The cheat meals become more plentiful and you slowly convince yourself you have time to get back on the wagon because summer is still several months away. In this post, I address most of the objections I hear on a daily basis.
If you can relate to any of these struggles on your weight loss journey, then let me help you adopt lifestyle changes for long-term success.
1. “Fad Dieting”
Juice cleansing, liquid diets, and/or eating salads every meal doesn’t work! The truth of the matter is that these forms of dieting are NOT sustainable nor maintainable. You may lose a few pounds, but once you stop the weight comes right back.
2. Starvation Mode
What does it mean to starve yourself? It means not eating enough calories to support your body’s daily energy requirements. Sometimes people think that starving themselves is the best way to lose weight. Unfortunately, when our bodies go into “starvation mode,” the body compensates by holding onto fat storages for dear life. It says “if I am not getting fed, I will slow my metabolism and store my food since I’m not getting enough.”
3. SUGAR
What do you think of when you think of sugar? Cupcakes, sodas, chocolate candy, cake, ice cream, etc.? You’re right, these foods are loaded with sugar! But what you may not know is that there is hidden sugar in just about every single food item, especially those with a shelf life. Even foods advertised as “healthy” can be impeding your weight loss because of the amount of sugar in them. And what happens when we feed our bodies sugar? It craves more sugar! Eventually, the body cannot metabolize this sugar properly thus becoming insulin resistant and causing high levels of sugar in the bloodstream which ultimately can lead to Type 2 diabetes.
4. “Cheat” Meals
Have you ever tried a diet where you were eating chicken and broccoli every day, and then the weekend came and you stuffed your face with an entire pizza? We have all been there! When you deprive yourself of the foods you love ALL OF THE TIME, you break. Learning how to incorporate these foods into your diet is important. It’s called BALANCE (aka not going insane).
5. Trying to Out Train a Bad Diet
It does not matter how much cardio you do or how many hours you spend in the gym. If you are not fueling your body correctly, you will not see results. PERIOD.
