Located on Thomas St. in Hammond, Painting With a Twist offers something for everyone in the family. Simply select the image you want to paint (from their calendar of art) and show up! The “twist” here is that you can bring your own beverages and snacks! Who doesn’t like to nibble on some cheese and crackers while giving their best shot at a Picasso copycat? Special Olympics in Louisiana
With an office located right here in Hammond, the Special Olympics is something everyone can help with. The Special Olympics are always looking for volunteers to help coach, encourage, coordinate and work with their athletes. The USA Special Olympics games are in July, but state games are in May. Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival
Home of the Strawberry Festival, Ponchatoula hosts many festivals throughout the year. The most famous of them all being the Strawberry Festival, held April 13-15 this year. Shortly after the strawberry festival will be the Italian festival (showcasing the Italian heritage through concerts, parades and other events). There is also the Oyster Festival as well as other festivals celebrating various likes, hobbies and heritages of all kinds.
Local Farmer’s Market
Ponchatoula, Hammond, Independence…you name it, local cities love to show off their residence’s talents by offering farmer’s markets. Typically held on Saturday and/or Sundays, these farmer’s markets are loaded with local goods such as jams, honey, decorative carpentry or metalsmith pieces. Farmer’s markets are a great way to get to know your community, give back to your community and enjoy the great spring weather!
