Last year we had a series of things you can do in Hammond if you don’t have back pain. We are continuing that series this year with some things you can do in the area if you don’t have shoulder pain.
Kleibert’s Turtle and Alligator:
Kleibert’s Gator Farm is a great place to appreciate the Louisiana culture. On site, you will take a walk through the swamp, witness gator feedings and learn about the 57-year-old history at this facility. Some of their namesake animals include “Mary Laveau” the 15-foot python, “Gumbo” the Nile Croc and “Crush” a 1200-pound alligator!
Ponchatoula Antique Trade Days and Arts & Crafts fair:
The Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce puts on this 3-day event every year. Ponchatoula is known as the “antique city” thus this is the perfect location for an Antique show. Adults can enjoy the fine cuisine and live music while the kids can enjoy pony rides and face painting.
Mardi Gras:
The Hammond area celebrates Mardi Gras just like it’s “cousin”, the city of New Orleans. Hammond runs their Krewe of Omega parade around the Southeastern Louisiana University campus. This is a very family oriented parade.
Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center:
The LCDC in Hammond offers ALL things for the kiddos! Kids can learn about a multitude of things at the LCDC’s various exhibits. The kids can perform at the theatre, learn to take care of the “animals” at the Vet, climb rocks, build sky scrapers, etc. The list goes on and on at the LCDC.
North Oak Park:
North Oak Park is home to the SELU Lady Lions softball team. At the park, the kids can play on the splash pad or eat some yummy concessions. The family can catch a great softball game (when in season) or you can bring yourself to the batting cage and practice your swing. North Oak Park is located on N. Oak Dr. on SELU’s campus.
We hope you enjoyed our suggestions for these wonderful things to do around the Hammond area!
