One of the things people like about Mandeville is all the fun things there are to do. In this blog, I am going to talk about five things you can do in Mandeville, if you don’t have back pain!
Paddle on Bayou Cane
Located right off Florida St. in Big Branch, is the Cane Bayou Boat Launch. You can park your vehicle here and put a canoe or Kayak in the water and paddle about 1 mile out to Lake Ponchartrain. There are lots of things to see on the way such as Osprey Nests, Nutria Rats and, of course, alligators. There’s a small shell beach at the end where you can get out and paddle around, if you dare.
Bike riding on the St. Tammany Trace
The St. Tammany Trace runs from Covington all the way to Slidell. It’s a converted railroad track so it’s smooth, flat and shady. It runs through some of the most scenic parts of St Tammany. Along the way there are bridges and trailheads; there’s even a playground at Koop Drive.
Go to a Farmers Market
Farmers Markets are everywhere in St. Tammany from Abita springs to Covington to Mandeville. Each has a slightly different atmosphere and might include produce, home cooking, music and crafts.
Charter a fishing trip or a sailboat
Fishing in Lake Pontchartrain gets better every year and several charter companies are available to help you take advantage of that. Whether you like to fish the railroad trestles in Slidell or you want to see what’s hiding under the causeway, there’s a trip that suits your needs. If you don’t like to work for your dinner, there’s a company that will take you and your friends for a sunset sail including drinks and dinner, right here in Mandeville.
Pelican Park
Pelican Park is one of the largest Youth Sports Parks in the state. If you have school age kids, you probably spend a lot of time here during the week coaching or sitting in the bleachers. But did you know that they also have activities and classes for adults? They have classes for everything from Yoga and Karate to arts and crafts and concealed handgun classes. They have something to interest everyone in Mandeville.
