1. Splash Pads Several local parks and recreation centers around us offer a bit of relief from the heat. Splash pads are great for the kids or the pups to play around in, just don’t forget the sunscreen! Even when we are refreshed from the cool water, the sun can still do its damage. Check out some of our favorite splash pads in the area…
Mandeville Lakefront and Trailhead
Abita Springs Trailhead Splash Pad (adjacent to the regular playground)
Chappapeela Park (Hammond)
2. Cold Beer
What’s better than an ice-cold beverage?! We have friends all over the Northshore area who own and manage their own breweries. Check out the list below. If you aren’t a beer fan, that’s ok! Most of these pubs and breweries offer food options as well (sometimes in the form of a local food truck)!
Covington Brewhouse
The Old Rail Restaurant and Brewery
Gnarly Barley Brewhouse
Abita Brewery
3. Snowball Stands
There’s just something special about that flavored syrup covered ice. A New Orleans tradition, snowball stands are everywhere! Yeah you may find an imposter here and there, but check out some of our favorite stands below. What’s your favorite flavor combination?
Just Chillin’
Kool Breeze
4. Cool Zoo Splash Park at the Audubon Nature Institute
One of the top cool spots in New Orleans, the Cool Zoo offers water slides, jumping puddles and even a lazy river! There are lounge chairs, restrooms and lockers all to make this the perfect spot for a refreshing day with the kiddos!
5. Tubing
It wouldn’t be Southern Louisiana if we didn’t offer a place for locals (and visitors) to get out and enjoy our mossy scenery! Several of our neighboring rivers offer tubing adventures for the thrill seeker.
Bogue Chitta (Washington Parish)
