The Role of Physical Therapy

In today’s world, there are SO MANY options when it comes to pain management.  Used to, the only remediation for pain was medicine or surgery.  Today you have several options for pain management.  In this article, we are going to discuss the role (and benefits) physical therapy has on your road to recovery.

While surgery is sometimes the answer to pain relief, sometimes there are things that can be done between medicine and surgery to ease the pain/cure the issue and, potentially, allow you to live pain free without the surgery.  Some of these remedies are chiropractic care, massage therapy, shots, rhizotomies, etc.  Physical Therapy fits in this realm perfectly!

Back and neck pain are some of the more common ailments we deal with at Jones Physical Therapy, although we deal with all different pain/injury cases.  Several of our patients have been dealing with their pain for a while, making the decision of paying money and spending time ridding themselves of the pain a rather important decision.  We, at Jones Physical Therapy, acknowledge the commitment it takes which is why we walk you through the decision-making process with one of our pain relief experts.

In a lot of pain management cases, you go to a facility to have something done to you (i.e. shot, adjustment, surgery).  With physical therapy, yes you come to our clinic to have things done to you (stretching, dry needlingmassage, etc.), but we also give you things to do at home so to teach you how to manage your pain on your own.  By doing some exercises on your own, you are strengthening your area of concern and creating habits to continue when you time with us at the clinic is finished.

I know what you are probably thinking, “This is a huge step.  How do I know if physical therapy is right for me?”  GREAT question!  We have something called a “Discovery Visit” at our clinic.  A Discovery Visit consists of you and the physical therapist discussing what’s got you feeling down, what life activities do you want to get back to doing (pain free), what remedies have you tried, etc.  This visit is roughly 30 minutes and doesn’t cost you anything.  We acknowledge that, sometimes, patients need additional help for their pain, but we also have found that physical therapy is usually the fix, if not a good first step on the road to recovery.
